Mary Rochelle Evans (nee Wegmann)

December 9, 1941 - March 8, 2021

Mary Rochelle Evans (nee Wegmann) 79, formerly of Runnemede NJ, passed away peacefully in her youngest daughter’s home on March 8, 2021. Born Mary Rochelle Russ on December 9, 1941 in Chester South Carolina, and recently a resident of Marion VA, Mary is survived by her children: Laura J. Kaighn (Brian) of Williamstown NJ; Edward A. Evans (April) of Winston-Salem NC; Alice N. Dippel (Allen Thomas) of Marion VA; Sharon R. Evans-Bannon of Atkins VA; and Elaine Hope Bitner (Kenneth) of Bellmawr NJ. Mary was grandmother to nine and great-grandmother of four. She is also survived by her siblings Peggy Ganzel (NJ) and Russell Wegmann (TX). Mary is predeceased by sisters Sherril Sutter, Linda Thomas and parents Mary C. and Edward Wegmann of Philadelphia and Mount Ephraim. Mary was a member of the Audubon Methodist Church in early adulthood and attended Girl’s High in Philadelphia then Audubon High School where she graduated in 1960. In 1962, Mary married Alvin S. Evans of Runnemede NJ and raised her five children in their home on Bowers Avenue. She enjoyed her work as a young insurance agent in Philadelphia and loved her fashion career at J.C. Penny, Fashion Bug and later Ross in Deptford. Travel, archeology, fashion, music, nature and family were her life-long interests. Mary was also known for helping others in need with an eager ear, a helping hand, a forgiving soul and a guiding, compassionate spirit. A loving mother always, Mary encouraged her children to be independent, curious and to pursue their interests. She was her daughters’ best example of a devoted spouse and unconditionally caring parent. She was a friend to those in need of friendship, encouragement and love, and she will be missed by many. Viewing for Mary R. Evans will be held at the Earle Funeral Home, 122 West Church Street, Blackwood, NJ 08012 on March 11, 2021 from 10:30- 11:30am to be followed by a brief service at 11:30am.
