Irene "Rene" McKegney

November 2, 1925 - May 1, 2022

Irene “Rene” McKegney (nee Choimer), of Deptford, NJ, passed away May 1, 2022, at the age of 96 years. Rene was born to Laurent and Irene Choimer in 1925 in Philadelphia, PA. Devoted wife of sixty years to her great and loving husband, Bill McKegney, who predeceased her in 2009. Beloved mother of Laurene Gaughan (Bill) and Carol Wilson (Chuck). Proud grandmother of the late Renald “Rennie” J. Ferretti III, Lori Wilson-Wilks, and Marci Wilson-Console; great grandmother of Mikala Robinson, Kaden Console, Ethan Console, and Colt Wilks. Dear sister of Anna Boody (the late Stan) and the late Laurent Choimer, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944, France. Rene held many jobs throughout her life, her first after high school, was as a secretary for Camden Fire Insurance. She went on to work as a secretary at Almonesson Elementary School, Central School, Blackwood Terrace School, and finally, Lake Tract School. Rene was a charter member of the Fourth Thursday Social Women’s Club (FTS), a group founded in the 1950’s that consisted of women who attended Almonesson United Methodist Church. The bonds of friendship that were made in the FTS group endured for many, many years. She enjoyed riding her bicycle and in her younger years liked to roller skate at Almonesson Rink, Deptford, NJ and Watsontown Rink, Lindenwold, NJ. She belonged to the Deptford Mixed Bowling League, where at one time she had scored a 609 series. Viewing will be Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Earle Funeral Home, 122 W. Church St., Blackwood, NJ 08012, where services will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be appreciated to United Methodist Communities at Pitman, NJ, 535 N. Oak Avenue, Pitman, NJ 08071, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
