Edwin Winfield Lewis (“Pop”) passed away peacefully on June 29, 2019 – his 82nd birthday. Son of the late Anna LeCompte (née Maule) and the late Francis Lewis, and preceded in death by his daughter Carol Sefton. Pop is survived by his two sons, Edwin Jr. and Robert, his daughter-in-law Carol, grandchildren Kimberly, Leanne (Robert), and Steven, great-grandchildren Tatum, Jessica, Gianna, and Vincent, and many granddogs and great-granddogs who loved him dearly. Born in 1937, Pop grew up in Philadelphia before starting a family in Blackwood, New Jersey. He worked as a union carpenter for 55 years, 40 of which were spent with Degler-Whiting, Incorporated. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose volunteer organization in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed summers in Ocean City, Maryland, for over 30 years and was an avid fisherman. Pop’s life is marked by his love of animals, especially dogs and birds. Every dog in Ocean City knew to stop at Pop’s place for a biscuit, and every bird knew that a hearty meal of white bread and meal worms would be served three times a day from his front porch. He even managed to befriend a fox over some chicken wings, much to neighbor’s dismay. His life is also marked by his tireless service to others. His loved ones would attest that he simply could not sit still, even until the end. He was always the first to lend a hand, and always found something that needed fixing. He regularly volunteered his handiwork at the Bucks County Seventh Day Adventist Church in Warminster, PA. He never arrived empty-handed, but always with flowers or food in tow. His big heart, sense of humor, and helping hands will be deeply missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Earle Funeral Home, 122 W. Church Street, Blackwood, NJ, 08012. A memorial service will begin at 10:00 AM followed by interment at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro.
